Inspired by Shanty 2 Chic

I came across these beautiful coasters at Shanty 2 Chic and HAD to make them!! Here is the link to her tutorial: http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2012/02/diy-coasters-and-free-printables.html

I have made some similar with photos before for Christmas gifts but never with the oven/transfer method.

Here are some of my supplies:

Which included:
Pictured:
Shanty 2 Chic printable - just printed out on my printer - an ink jet
Paint brush - I got a cheap one at lowes for under $1
Mod Podge - matte finish - bought at Hobby Lobby
4x4 inch tumbled marble tiles - from Lowes $.44 each
Not pictured in this picture:
Wax paper to protect work surface
Rust-Oleum Ultimate Polyurethane with Soft Touch (pictured in image below)
Scissors
Small nail brush (pictured in image below)

What I did - very similar to Shanty 2 Chic:
1) heat oven to 170
2) paint 2 coats of Mod Podge on back side of tiles, let dry
3) cut out 4x4 paper squares from print out
4) paint a coat of Mod Podge on front of paper (on printed side) then stuck face down on tile side I had painted - press down onto tile, leaving no bubbles
5) put in oven for 20 minutes - keep eye on them
6) take out of oven - and rub off paper gently - I did this by rolling my finger on the tile

As you can see in this pic the 2 tiles on the right have a white sheen - this is paper. I used the small nail brush in the picture. I got it slightly wet, then shook excess water off. Then I gently scrubbed across the front of the tile to get the excess white off. Be gentle, or you will wipe of the entire design.

The last step was to put the rustoleum sealer on - after the tiles completely dried off. I still need to add felt to the bottom so they don't scratch the furniture!!

Then walla - pretty new coasters to match our gray bedroom!!

Next I am going to make some for the kids room. They always take drinks to their room and this will keep them from ruining their furniture.

Thanks Shanty 2 Chic for such a GREAT project!!
